We managed to pull out of the driveway this morning a few minutes before 8. This was what I expected, but Jeff would have preferred 6am. He is always geared up and ready to leave EARLY when we are on a trip. I'm usually with him in that area, but since we only had a six hour drive today, I didn't see the need to leave a "O-dark-hundred" (one of my dad's old sayings).
We first visited the Opryland hotel just to admire the beautiful hotel. I think the boys would agree that it is "neat", but I don't think, make that, I know they did not have the same appreciation/awe I do for the beautiful waterfalls, gardens, etc. Both of the older boys did comment though on how thankful they are that our last name is NOT "Gaylord" (the hotel is the "Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Resort")! That would be an awful name especially for a middle-schooler in this day and age. If you are unaware, "gay" has become a much used, negative adjective for kids, including my boys.
While at the Opryland hotel we made a visit to help provide job security for my dear friend Stacie's husband, Don. What lengths won't we go to for our friends?!?! Our entire family indulged in Hagen-Daz ice cream! What a rough sacrifice, but people have to do it to keep the company in business!
We then made a trip to the Opry Mills Mall for a brief shopping trip. Caleb and Aaron have made the transition of age that would actually enjoy spending some time shopping, but Jeff, Noah and Elizabeth did not agree. We then came to the hotel, and ordered pizza, then headed to the pool. The kids had no more than jumped in, literally, and we saw lightning and heard thunder, so that was the end of their swim. At least we tried. Below are pictures of the "after-pizza" entertainment.
Tomorrow we will visit The Hermitage, and then off to Tipp City, OH!!
