Day 12: Chicago--the Shedd Aquarium

We drove the couple of hours over to Chicago and were able to park our car at the home of a friend's parents. One of our good friend while we were in China, was Sue Brewer. We spent the majority of our time there with her and her husband Tom and also Dennis & Nina Rose from Denver. Sue live is WI, but was supposed to be in Chicago from Sunday 7/20 until Wednesday afternoon visiting her family. We were so excited that we were going to be able to see her and her daughter Sara (Tom was in Iowa (or was is Idaho?) on a week-long bike ride--sounds like too much work to me!). On Tuesday afternoon we had gotten the bad news that two of her three older biological children had been sick and that she had found out they had mono!! We weren't going to be able to see her--sooo disappointing! Her parents, however, very graciously offerred for us to still park at their town home. The live right in downtown Chicago and in walking distance from the aquarium and museums. Since parking can get very expensive there, we were very appreciative.

We visited the Shedd Aquarium after a nice walk over there. It was around 80 degrees outside without a cloud in the sky and a anice gentle breeze. You couldn't ask for a nicer day. Before we went in, we got some Chicago hotdogs from a street vendor. Jeff isn't always a big fan of hotdogs, but he loved the "Chicago-style" hotdog!

We all loved the aquarium. When we lived in Bremen, we had made the trip over one day and took Caleb and Aaron. While they didn't remember it at all, it brought back sweet memories to me. Elizabeth really enjoyed the dolphin show. The Beluga whales were great, as well as the Wild Reef exhibit. I could have spent lots more time there. If you ever have the chance to go--TAKE IT!

We walked back to our car and then drove out to the suburb where our hotel was. We made the wonderful discovery that we were very close to a mall, and next to that mall was a Cheesecake Factory. We found our place for dinner!! We had a wonderful dinner and a very sweet waitress.
Once we were all stuffed, we headed back to the hotel and got ready for bed.
